It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara Manley on August 21, 2024 at Stratford General Hospital with family by her side at the age of 78. Dedicated wife of 47 years to the late Thomas Manley (died February 14, 2022), she is once again by his side.
Beloved mother to John, Mark and Kevin Manley. Cherished grandmother to Jonah, Mateo and Eliana Manley. She is survived by her sister Audrey Hillis and her brothers Jack and Reginald Hotham. She will be dearly missed by members of St. Anne’s Church and the long list of friends and family whose lives she touched.
She was born on December 17, 1945 in Toronto, Ontario to the late Melville and Della Hotham. Barbara was raised in the neighborhood of Long Branch, and started volunteer work in her adolescent years at Christ the King and St. Dominic’s Church. She was a diligent worker who entered the workforce at the age of 17. She married Thomas in 1974 and started a family soon afterwards. She counted raising her three children as her proudest life achievement, whom she raised in Brampton, Ontario. Barbara was a hard worker at her position in Accounts and Purchasing at DHL, and used her problem solving skills to become a vital member of the team who was much missed when she retired. After retirement she continued with her passion of volunteer work at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, spending many years in the RCIA program helping new members join the flock. She was essential in organizing a pilgrimage for members of her parish to France, Italy and Portugal in 2008. In her later years she moved to Cedarcroft Retirement Home in Stratford Ontario where she lived close to family.
