Bill was born in Clinton, MA to the late William M. Kett Sr (dec. 8/23/1998) and Ann Patricia (O’Malley) Kett (dec. 1950). After the death of his mother, Bill's cousin Mary Cote came from Ireland to help take care and support Bill and his brother. Bill is also preceded in death by his stepmother, Christine N. (Keaveney) Kett (dec 1984) who became a devoted mother to Bill and his brother Dennis throughout their lives.
He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade and Quinsigamond Community College. Bill proudly served on the Worcester Massachusetts Police Department for 37 years until his retirement in 2001, at the rank of Lieutenant. Simultaneously he served in the United States Army Reserves until his retirement in 2003 as Sergeant First Class.
Bill had a wonderful personality and was loved by all. Being an avid golfer, one of his happiest moments was in 2022, when he got a hole in one on the 13th hole at Tara Golf & Country Club inc. When not golfing, Bill enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, along with playing poker with his buddies at Tara.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 24 years Maryanne; daughters, Patricia A. Kett (Carlos Barragan) of Ft Myers Beach, FL and Carolyn Kett-Sullivan (Kevin Sullivan) of Estero, FL; brother Dennis Kett (Patricia) of Thompson, CT; grandchildren, Arielle Magnan of Worcester, MA, Zakery Kephart of Fall River, MA and Erin Sullivan of Estero, FL and great granddaughter, Michaela Bjork of Worcester, MA. He is also survived by his niece Ann Marie Kett of Holden, MA and grand niece Bridget O’Doherty of Holden, MA and brother-in-law Gary Mastrangelo (Annette) of Bradenton, FL; and their daughters, Amy and Heather.
With a strong devotion to his dogs, was predeceased by Pearl, Cassie, & Winston. He is survived by his best buddy and most recent companion Fred, who spent countless hours at his side.
A funeral mass for Bill will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 12905 State Road 70 E, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202. Following the funeral mass will be a committal service with military honors at 12:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sarasota County Humane Society.
