Susan Ileen Greenberg of Sarasota, FL, passed away on June 13, 2023, at the age of 77. She leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 61 years, Jerry, and her two children, Kelly (Vance) and Natalie (Jeff). She loved being “Granny” to her four grandchildren: Bridger, Elyse, Marina, and Mason. She cherished every moment with them, showering them with affection, gifts and homemade treats. To her friends, Susan was a supportive, loving, steadfast confidant. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on January 15, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, Susan was the daughter of Betty and Samuel Mathews. She grew up in University Heights, OH, attending Wylie Junior High, Cleveland Heights High School, and later Ohio State University and Cleveland State University.
Susan and Jerry’s love story began in their teenage years as high school sweethearts and blossomed into a lifelong partnership. They exchanged vows on July 9, 1967, and together, created a lifetime of memories, embracing all of life ups and downs with each other’s unwavering love and support.
At the age of 22, Susan was one of the youngest loan officers at Community National Bank. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her and Jerry to open a Bressler's 33 Flavors Ice Cream Store, in, at the time, the country's largest mall. They also started Maid in America, a maid service based in West Palm Beach, FL. Later in life, Susan enjoyed her time as a receptionist for Centex Homes after relocating to Sarasota, FL.
Susan's zest for life led her on various adventures, and her and Jerry explored the world together. After honeymooning in Miami Beach and the Bahamas, they traveled all over the United States, and later explored breathtaking destinations such as Italy, England, France, China, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Germany, South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Brussels, and Estonia. When not flying commercially, Susan fearlessly joined Jerry in the skies, in his home-built airplane.
Susan was a beautiful and elegant woman with impeccable taste – from her hair and manicured nails to her stylish Chico outfits. She was a talented cook who enjoyed entertaining guests and exploring nice restaurants. Her passion for interior design was evident in her homes showcasing her classic taste and creativity.
Susan possessed a playful and competitive spirit and was passionate about spending joyful hours playing Mah Jong with her friends. She also loved watching crime shows – so many in fact, she was endearingly teased as being an expert in crime investigations.
