Samuel Byron Thornton, Jr., 86, of Bradenton greeted his Heavenly Father and loving wife at Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, July 25, 2010. He passed away from complications after having a stroke.
Byron was originally from Columbus, Georgia, where he served with and retired from the Fire Department. He served our country during World War II as an ammo truck driver with Patton’s 737th Tank Battalion.
He is survived by his son Thomas B. Thornton, also of Bradenton, two grandchildren, Heather Campbell of Tampa, Florida and Rebecca Bostic of Bradenton, and two great-grandchildren, Joshua (7) and Nathaniel, Jr. (2 wks). He is also survived by his younger brother, Richard Thornton of Osteen, Florida.
Visitation will be held from 5–8 PM Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Manasota Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Bradenton with Funeral Services at 11:00 AM Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Funeral Home.
