Robert Niles Rosas, age 95, of Holmes Beach, went to be with the Lord very suddenly and peacefully at home on July 26. He was born July 28, 1922 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Louis B. and Adella (Niles) Rosas.
He joined Boy Scouts of America at age 12 and attained the Eagle Scout Award. He was one of 16 Scouts who bonded together as Rovers for activities all through their lives. His brother Milton, serving in the air force, was the first of the 16 to pass on and Bob the last.
Bob attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a Chemical Engineer batchelor’s degree. He joined the Naval ROTC during this time and went into active service in 1943 and was then assigned to serving on the destroyer Hailey in the South Pacific April 1944 until his discharge in 1946.
He Married Betty Lou Lindgren in 1949 in St. Paul, MN and went on to get a Civil Engineer bachelor’s degree at the U of M. He worked most of his career at the Minnesota Department of Transportation ending in the Bridge Department, retiring in 1984. Bob was active in many churches where he served on boards and committees and was a member of the Valley Creek Watershed Board in Afton, Minnesota for 10 years.
Travel was a large part of his life visiting all seven continents. After retirement he and Betty went on volunteer mission trips over 20 times, two weeks to three months each, doing whatever needed to be done in new building or repairing the old. Bob was an avid reader, very interested in nature and became a Florida Master Naturalist in 2010. He was a “fixer-upper” in more ways than one.
He is Survived by wife Betty (having celebrated 69 years of marriage in April) and children Daughter Janeen, Anna Maria Is., Fl.; Son Steven, wife Marcie, Menomonie WI; Son Jeffrey, wife Nan, Eugene OR; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Son Gregory 65 (wife Sharon) went to be with the Lord June 28, 2018.
A memorial service will be held August 18 at 11 am at Crosspointe Fellowship, 8605 Gulf Dr. Holmes Beach, Fl. In addition to this service a burial service will be held in St. Paul, MN late August.
