Osvaldo "Ozzie" Antonio Chu Olmos

He was born to Julio and Carmen Chu on July 10, 1957, in Panama City, Panama. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Universidad de Panama, Ozzie earned a Master’s Degree in Food Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He met his wife, Denise, while attending MIT. Together, they had three children, Jonathan, Ryan, and Andrea, and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2023.

Ozzie’s career brought him and his family from Woburn, Massachusetts, to Sarasota, Florida, where he spent years patenting award-winning food products, coaching his kids’ soccer teams, and enjoying days on the beach with his family.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ozzie created products like the Tropicana ‘Low Acid’ and ‘Light ‘n Healthy’ orange juices, developed the first ever coconut water-based sports drink, and was recognized by CNN for contributing to medical advancements using his food science knowledge.

Ozzie was the life of the party and the ultimate caretaker who was truly adored by everyone he met. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, especially his two granddaughters, Aliyah and Charlie. His kindness, intelligence, and infectious laugh will be missed by all.

Along with his wife, Denise, he is survived by his children: Jonathan Chu and his wife Kendra of Sarasota, Ryan Chu and his wife Alyson of Winter Garden, and Andrea Chu of St. Petersburg. Adored Papa of Aliyah Chu and Charlestyn Chu. Dear brother of Yamilé Chu, Julito Chu and his wife Itza, Gabriel Chu, Ivan Chu and his wife Rebeca of Panama; and brother-in-law to Kathy and Paul Bogonis of Woburn, Massachusetts. Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church followed by a Celebration of Life from 1-3 p.m. at Turtle Rock Community Center.
