Lisa D. Dean, age 55, of Parrish, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Lisa was born October 6, 1966, in Toledo, OH. After graduating from Seneca Valley High School (Germantown, MD) in 1985, she went on to earn a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in 1992.
A powerful mind and strong attention to detail led her to the pharmaceutical industry, where she quickly found her calling in clinical trial data management. After several years at MedImmune and Alba Therapeutics, she became Provention Bio’s manager of data management in July of 2017 as a consultant, later joining them in their commitment to patients as a full-time employee. She was a key founding contributor to Provention, singlehandedly managing all their trial data for the first 4 years of the life of the company, including the BLA (Biologics License Application). You could count on Lisa to deliver: her intellectual appetite for detail and passion for her job made her an invaluable member of the Provention Bio team. Management of clinical trial data is never an easy process; it requires quick solutions to last-minute problems thrown to you left and right, always under tough deadlines. But Lisa could always help solve the problem; a quality that many of her colleagues celebrated throughout her professional career.
Lisa loved animals, fishing, the beach, seashells, plants, tropical fish, audiobooks, sudoku, Ledo’s pizza, Dodge Charger SRTs, Amazon, online grocery ordering, texting with friends near and far, reality TV shows, and John Hughes movies. Her amazing green thumb was apparent at home, and she had recently developed a love of succulents. She was an environmentalist who cared deeply about the planet and practiced what she preached about harmful human activities.
Lisa’s amazing memory never failed her. She remembered everything that friends or acquaintances told her, and always had a favorite TV or movie quote ready! She was kind-hearted and generous, easily putting her friends’ needs first. She was never short on advice, time, or a shoulder to lean on. But she did not suffer fools gladly! She could call BS on things—and herself—swiftly. She had a wicked sense of humor, a joyfully quick and sarcastic wit, and a wonderfully contagious laughter. She was silly, funny, kind, generous, loyal, and smart. She was truly one-of-a-kind, and there was never a dull moment when she was around.
Lisa was preceded in death by her mother, Margueritte Dean, her grandparents, her dear friend Michael (Myk) Olivarez of Grapevine, TX, and numerous rescue pets that she adored and doted on. She is survived by her family, the Harveys of MD (aunts, uncles, and cousins): Tom, Bill, Jack, Pat, Fuzzy, Lynn, Holly, Alicia, Portia, Minda, Duncan, Brendan, and Alexander; her work family at Provention Bio, including colleagues Victoria Bilenko (Ukraine), Dr. Francisco Leon, Tammy Ng (El Cerrito, CA), Linda Ott (TX); close friends/extended family: Kim Bowman (Ocklawaha, FL), Kurt Coffman and Sergio Rodriguez (Santa Fe, NM), Laurie Gaudreau (Aiken, SC), Tina Hanigan (Harper’s Ferry, WV), Kelly, Matthew and Michael Morris (Owings, MD), Gloria Ogden (Hagerstown, MD), Julia Olivarez (Grapevine, TX), Carvahda Shamsid-Deen (Wirtz, VA), Michelle Taylor (Germantown, MD), Debra Webber (Ocala, FL); and, last but certainly not least, her much treasured and beloved pets Bandit and Little Bit (aka Stinky). We all loved Lisa — and miss her — so very much.
