John M. Szegedy, 70, of Bradenton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones, Monday, September 3, 2018. John was born on March 21, 1948 in McKeesport, Pa. to the late John and Ethel Szegedy.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Diana J. Szegedy; 3 daughters, Paula Reiner of Morgantown, WV., Michelle Schappacher, and husband Scott of Bradenton, and Jennifer Szabo, and husband Andy of Palmetto; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers and 3 sisters, Frank, George, and Peter Szegedy, Mary Elizabeth Lappa, Anna Prochaska, all of Pennsylvania, Ethel Miranda of Virginia, and Edward Szegedy of Eustis, Florida.
John served in the U.S. Army in Germany. In 1971 he became a Supervisor for Consol Coal Mines, and also was employed by Emerald Mines. In 1985 John and his family moved from West Virginia to Florida where he was a Supervisor for Tropicana. John retired in 2005 and enjoyed his time taking his grandchildren to the beach, watching sci-fi movies, and praising the Lord.
Funeral services for John will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 10 a.m. from the Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Bradenton with burial to follow at the Manasota Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7 from 6 until 9 p.m., and again on Saturday one hour prior to service time.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Leonard, Tristan Szabo, Edward Szegedy, Frank Szegedy, George Szegedy, John Chase, and EJ Szegedy.
