John served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. When he retired from the service in 1963 he moved to Bradenton Florida and met his loving wife Donna Chilton. He then worked for a brief time in the Palmetto Police Department, and then worked for over 20 years at Alcan Manufacturing while working weekends at Department of Juvenile Justice Detention Facility. Once retired, he began working for Manatee County Sheriff’s department as a beloved school crossing guard where he served for 10 years up until his passing. He was a dedicated family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife with their travel trailer visiting family across the country and enjoying the sites. John was an avid local sports fan who enjoyed watching the Rays, Bucs, and the Lightning and discussing it with his children.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 53 years Donna, his brother Ken, his three sons John, Dan, and Chad, and his grandchildren Haley, Danielle, Megan, Michelle, Jeremy, and Haley Sowers, and many extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence & Mary Snyder and his grandson Matthew.
Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home is entrusted with final care. Services for John will be held March 10, 2018 at 2 pm at Palmetto Presbyterian, 1115 Tenth Ave, Palmetto, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Tidewell Hospice House of Bradenton, Florida.
