Joan J. Gannon, 92, died December 5, 2024, at the Westminster Point Pleasant Health Center in Bradenton, FL., after a long illness. Born on Jan. 8, 1932, in Dover, NJ, she came to Bradenton in 1993 with her late husband William Sr., living first at the Mill Creek Lakewood Ranch neighborhood, and since 2014 at Westminster Point Pleasant Shores and the Health Center there. A 1950 graduate of Dover High School, she studied Secretarial and Bookkeeping at Drake Secretarial School before starting a 35-year career at Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), including serving as that company's first woman Sr. Layout Technician. She was an active singer for more than 2 decades, having performed with Masterworks Chorus and the JCP&L Chorus where she sang at Carnegie Hall, Thule AFB in Greenland, and dozens of other locations while also serving as the principal soloist at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Dover. After moving to Bradenton, she and her late husband were popular volunteer ambassadors at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport for more than 15 years. With her husband, she was a charter season ticket holder, and an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and were founding members of St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church in Parrish. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah A. LaBadie of Ellenton; a son, William R. Jr. and his wife Debbie Polley, both of Mendham, NJ; her AFS daughter Barbara Doughty and her husband, Jack, of Lambertville, NJ; a sister, Lois Campoli of Flanders, NJ; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband William Sr. in 2006. Services will be on Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic Church in Parrish. Burial will be at Manasota Memorial Park in Bradenton. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
