Gerald “Jerry” Gustave Becker passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Jerry was born on March 21,1959 in Milford, Delaware to Joseph and Helen (Talley) Becker. He graduated from Christiana High School, Newark, DE in 1977.
Throughout his working career, Jerry enjoyed the hospitality industry. He co-owned Events Unlimited and had the opportunity to oversee hundreds of events all over the tri-state area. He also enjoyed his time as the co-owner of The Wishing Well Bed & Breakfast in Sedona, AZ. Jerry was very active, playing softball, golf, bowling and was an avid pool player. When his illness prevented his participation, Jerry still continued to follow his local pool buddies via live stream. He was also known for his strong political beliefs and his ability to support his position.
Family was a center for Jerry. He provided end of life care for his father and assisted in the recovery of his then young daughter from Leukemia. These events, in addition to his own rare diseases, lead Jerry to be passionate about research, education and advocacy for change. He spent the last few months in Florida with his two daughters, Erin (Richard) Wilcox of Parrish, FL and Kristen (Mark) Fafalios of Port Saint Lucie, FL and his five grandchildren Hope, Ethan, Nathaniel, Lucas and Maverick. He is also survived by his sister Dawn (Dennis) Huss of Naples, FL and his brothers Allen (Michelle) of Middletown, DE and Phil (Catherine) Becker of Newark, DE.
A Celebration of Life is planned for August 21, 2021 at the Elks Lodge, New Castle, DE. More details to follow. Memorial contributions can be made to amyloidosissupport.org
