Christine Spencer Cheaves, 65, of Sarasota, Fl., passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014. She was born in Tifton, GA and was a daughter to the late Christopher and Leila Hodge Spencer. In childhood, Christine enjoyed attending church and going to Camp John Hope. She learned to speak French and enjoyed poetry. As an adult, her proudest moment, after attending night school in Sarasota, FL in 1973, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse and was currently employed by Bay Village of Sarasota. She also enjoyed reading the Bible, outdoor gardening and researching the unknown.
Christine is survived by her husband, Thaddus Cheaves; her daughter, Meshandra A. “Shan” Williams, daughter, Tracie D. Cheaves, and son, Williams “Michael” Spencer. Also surviving Christine are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cunningham, brother; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spencer, brother; Ms. Francine Wilkins and husband, sister; Ms. Sharon Moody, sister; Mr. Grover Yancey, brother; Mr. and Mrs. Tony Yancey, brother, 1 granddaughter, 5 grandsons, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, from 5-7pm at Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1221 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, FL 34203 with Funeral Services on Saturday, May 10 at 1:00pm at Church of Christ, 2740 N. Osprey Ave., Sarasota, FL.
