Peggy, age 93, of Bradenton and formerly of Sarasota, died November 30, 2023. She was born in Portland, Maine and came with her family to Sarasota at age five. She attended McClellan Park School, Southside Elementary School, and graduated from Sarasota High School in 1947. She graduated from Crawford W. Long Memorial School of Nursing in Atlanta, GA in 1950. She met and married her husband James in 1951.
She worked as a registered nurse for nearly 45 years and was a pioneer in public health nursing in Sarasota and Lee counties. She later became a pediatric nurse practitioner, caring for three generations of children with Dr. Ed Rushton until her retirement in 1994. She was active in the community and spent many hours volunteering at clinics for underserved children. She was a member of our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and a member of P.E.O. Chapter EI/FL, a philanthropic educational organization. She enjoyed traveling with friends and shared several memorable trips with her children and grandchildren. In her later years she was active in her independent living community as a committee volunteer and enjoyed playing Bridge and other card and table games.
She is predeceased by her parents Raymond Glendenning Brown and Helen Margaret (Bray); James V. Hutches, her husband of over 48 years; and her brother Francis S. Brown.
She is survived by her two daughters: Nancy Bowers and her husband Kerry of Birmingham AL; Mary Jo Williams and her husband Jim of Tampa, FL.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Andrew Bowers and his wife Rachel of Birmingham, AL; David Bowers and his wife Ashley of Birmingham, AL; Margaret Bowers Arwood and her husband Michael of Atlanta, GA; Blake Williams of Tampa, FL; Lauren Williams of Faribault, MN; and great-grandchildren Benjamin Bowers, Dax Bowers, and Eleanor Arwood.
She is also survived by her brother’s family: sister-in-law Delores Brown Mayer of Sarasota, FL; niece Susan Wayman and her husband Marc Kaye of Seattle, WA; nieces Linda Ellis and Patricia Leigh, and nephew Francis (Chip) Brown and his wife Elsa, all of Sarasota, FL.

A visitation for Margaret will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203. A burial will occur Wednesday, December 6, immediately following the service at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL 34203.
