Born a member of the Baby boomer generation in Manhattan, NY. in the late 40s; he was the last surviving child of Nellie (Harness) and Max Larsen.
In his early 20’s he was a bassist and in 1967 with the band Every Mothers Son, performed on the top 40 hit “Come on Down to My Boat Baby”. He would regularly tell stories of his time on the road traveling with the band, working with famous acts like Jefferson Airplane and the WHO.
After he was drafted during the Vietnam war, ending his music career, he decided to enlist in the US Navy, where he enjoyed traveling the world on the USS JFK CV-67 while working as an airplane mechanic. Once his enlistment ended he continued in that profession at LaGuardia Airport until he decided to change careers and continue his love for public service as a NYC Transit Officer.
After briefly moving to Boise Idaho, where he and his wife, Maritza, welcomed a daughter, Vivian, they moved back to NY where he continued a career as a diesel mechanic.
In 1986, while Maritza was pregnant with their son Eric, Schuyler was fortunate to survive a workplace accident that became a defining moment in his life. After this near death experience, he became a devout Christian.
When Eric was born, he moved to Pennsylvania for the educational opportunities that would be available to his children, despite the sacrifices that he and Maritza would make in doing so.
Once he retired, Schuyler dedicated his time to his love of gardening, caring for his elderly parents, and working on his hobbies which included moving off the grid via Solar panels, and building a bomb shelter.
His sense of humor was a defining feature of his personality, and it helped him through many of the challenges he faced in life. His great joys were his kids, the outdoors, and his garden, which he would donate produce from to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network who provides food and clothing for families in need.
He is survived by his family, Wife, Maritza Larsen, Daughter, Vivian M. Larsen wife of Timothy S. Strunk of Boyertown. A son, Eric M., husband of Brigit A. (Hoover) Larsen of Rockville, MD. A Granddaughter, Hannah J. Larsen at home.
