Joan R. Jeffries

Joan R. (Raab) Jeffries, age 84, wife of the late Leonard W. Jeffries of Boyertown, PA passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, in Pottstown, PA. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle (Wampole) and John Raab.

After graduating from Frankford High in Philadelphia, Joan relocated to Boyertown, PA with her husband. Joan worked for the American Seating Co., formerly of Norristown, from the late sixties to the early eighties. Joan did clerical work for several small businesses in the area until her retirement.

Joan was a dedicated advocate for the Township of Earl. She faithfully attended township meetings and had a vision to work with people in the community.

Joan served on the Earl Township Zoning Board in the early eighties and the Planning Commission in the late eighties - early nineties. She also participated with the Concerned Citizens of Earl Township in the mid-eighties.

Eventually, Joan was asked to serve on the DEP Advisory Panel to oversee the Rolling Hills Landfill located in Earl Township. In 1988, Joan became the chairperson of the Rolling Hills Landfill Advisory Council. In 2003, Pioneer Crossing Landfill Citizens Advisory Board sought her expertise and she served on their board for a year.

In 2005, Joan was given a citation from the House of Representatives in recognition of her twenty-five years of service to the Rolling Hills Advisory Board. A position she held until her passing.

Joan will be remembered as a person who gave more than she received, a wonderful cook, and someone who enjoyed spoiling her grandsons.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Vicky J. Sullivan of Oley, PA, and Linda J. Stengle of Boyertown, PA; and grandchildren, Miles D. Sullivan, Brenden Stengle, and Harrison Stengle.

A graveside service will be held for family and friends to remember and honor Joan at Fairview Cemetery in Boyertown, PA on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11 am.
