A lifelong resident of Boyertown, he was born in West Reading, PA to the late Lois E. (Appel) and Richard S. Frain.
After graduating from Pennsylvania State University, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan for over three years.
Upon his return from military service, Jim
worked as a counselor for Berks County Children and Youth Services. Always interested in technology, Jim trained for a career in computer programming and worked with several companies in PA and NJ.
He held memberships at the VFW and American Legion. He was also a member of the Gabelsville Hunting Association and a social member of the Keystone Fire Company.
Jim was always proud to share his vintage collection of vinyl records with family and friends. He was an avid fan of rock and roll - especially the Beatles - and he enjoyed playing his many guitars.
James is survived by his children, Dory A. Frain of Plymouth Meeting; James Matthew, husband of Jennifer A. Frain of Gilbertsville; grandchildren Samuel J. Frain and Emily G. Frain who reside at home; and a brother, John R., husband of Suzanne Frain, of Boyertown. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sisters, Joan E. Frain and Jane E. Frain.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
Arrangements by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc. 111 North Reading Ave. Boyertown, PA 19512.
