passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, May 7, 2021.
Born in Ephrata, he was a son of the late Ethel K. (Steinmetz) and James A. Becker.
George had many jobs over the course of his lifetime including truck driver for Mrs. Smith’s Pies, bus driver for the Boyertown School District, and production clerk for Boyertown Packaging Company for over 17 years, finally retiring in 1995.
He was a life member of several local clubs including Pike Twp. Sportsmans
Association, Gablesville Athletic Association, Amity Fire Company, and Friendship Hook and Ladder Fire Company of Boyertown. He enjoyed spending time socializing with his friends over a cup of coffee or an “MGD”.
George served in the U.S. Army as a cook where he fed up to 1500 soldiers daily. This is where his love of cooking began and continued into his retirement, as he was often baking cakes and cookies for friends and family. In his retirement, he also spent many years serving as a volunteer for Boyertown Area Multi-Service delivering Meals-On-Wheels.
He is survived by children, Gordon L. Becker, husband of Brian Schneider of Silver Spring, MD, and Karen M., wife of Randy S. Rhoads of Boyertown; granddaughter, Elyse N. Rothenberger of Schwenksville; and siblings, Roger D. Becker, Lois Kirlin, and twin sisters, Joyce Sackal and Janice Ingram.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George’s name to the Boyertown Area Multi-Service, 200 Spring St., Boyertown, PA 19512.
