Donald L. Smith

Born in Pottstown he was the son of the late Luther Redcay and Elsie Viola (Hunsberger) Smith.

He attended Pottstown High School.

Donald was an avid swimmer and diver. He loved fishing in North Carolina and spending time with his grandsons and their families. Donald was also an avid woodworker, and his last big project was “to scale” a dollhouse for Arabella, his great-granddaughter. He coached a swim team for the Pottstown YMCA for ten years.

He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, New Berlinville and volunteered there before taking ill. He attended the First United Methodist Church, Upland Village.

For 31 years he worked at Tech Alloy in Rahns, PA as a wire drawer.

In addition to his wife Dorothy of 60 years he is survived by a daughter, Deborah of Boyertown; a son, David, husband of Deborah of Oak Island, NC; grandsons, Dwight Smith of Mohnton, and Douglass Smith of Schwenksville; great-grandchildren, Mason, Colby, Ainsley, Rowan, Nolan, Arabella and Ashton; brothers, Richard, of Pottstown and Wilmer of Palm Coast, Florida.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 611 Swamp Creek Road, New Berlinville. The Reverend Robb Faller will officiate.

Relatives and friends will be received between 10 – 11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Andrew United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 434, New Berlinville, PA 19545.

Arrangements are being handled by the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc., 111 North Reading Avenue, Boyertown.
