Born in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania on December 7,1928, he graduated from Belfonte High School and Penn State University. His first teaching post was in Bradford, McKean County.
In 1958 he moved to Boyertown teaching 5th & 6th grade at Earl Elementary. In 1960 he was appointed as the elementary school principal for Earl, Bally, Congo, Bechtelsville and Colebrookdale Elementary. During his tenure he oversaw the building of the new Washington Elementary, which opened its doors in 1964. He retired in 1985 as principal at Colebrookdale and Pine Forge Elementary.
He took immense joy when former pupils would come up to him and say, “Mr. Hile, do you remember me?” Most of the time he did!
He was an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Church, serving on the Consistory and other committees. He was involved in the move from the Sassamansville Church to the new building in 1961
Travel was important to him, and he took his family on numerous camping adventures across country. Later he collaborated with the Rev. Vernon Stoop to organize tours to Hawaii and European countries.
Always a voracious reader, he enjoyed music, woodwork and especially the company of friends.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Beryl, their children, Lynda (married to Ken Smith) and Mark (married to Connie Hile). They have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private funeral will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown, PA.
