Joan A. Jensen, age 87, of North Tonawanda, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024. Joan was born September 24, 1936 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada, the daughter of Arthur and Georgina (Crosby) Adlam. During her youth Joan lived in Saskatoon, Regina, Asbestos, Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal and Niagara Falls, Canada. Joan married her husband, David H. Jensen, on June 6, 1959. They moved to Rochester, NY, and then Hilton, NY where they lived for many years and raised their children, Steven and Bonnie.
In Canada Joan worked for Bell Canada Telephone Company and when she moved to the United States she was a bank teller. Joan was a stay at home mother when her children were young. During her children’s high school years Joan returned to the work force with the Eastman Kodak Company as a Technical Services Support Specialist before retiring in 1991.
Joan and David retired to Ellenton, Florida for the winters and Akron, NY for the summers. Joan’s most recent move was to North Tonawanda, NY to be closer to Bonnie.
Joan was caring, accepting, supportive, and gave her time and talents unselfishly. Joan always had a commitment to give back to family, friends and community. Her volunteer work over the years included lifelong service to her church community, teaching Sunday school and helping with church activities. Joan also volunteered at her children's school events and in their classrooms. Joan knitted countless hats, scarves and mittens to provide to those less fortunate. In Florida for over 25 years Joan volunteered at the library and women’s shelter for domestic violence victims, in addition to donating school supplies and Christmas stockings for the underserved population.Joan led a wonderful, generous, and loving life.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, David Jensen, and her brother, Ronald Adlam. Joan is survived by her children, Steven (Laura) Jensen of Arlington, VA, and Bonnie (Chris) Clayton of Ransomville, NY; five grandchildren, Michael (Bethany) Burton, Adam Burton, Danielle (TC) Fantigrossi, Sarah Jensen, and Emily Jensen; two step grandchildren Lindsey (Christian) Seemayer, and Ryan Clayton; along with nine great grandchildren and extended family and friends. All will miss her dearly. Per Joan’s request, there will be no services. Interment will be at a later date in Ellenton, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
