Susan Alice (Smith) Bennett was born in Midland, MI to Frank Smith and Kathleen (Garrett) Smith on March 18,1942. Susan (aka Sue and Susie) graduated from Midland High School in 1960. After graduation she attended Western Michigan University. She graduated in 1964 and began teaching first grade in 1966. Susan met the love of her life, the late Fred Bennett, (at age 16) at a high school dance. They were married on June 18, 1966 and together for 41 years. They had two daughters, Stephanie & Melanie and one grandchild, Caitlyn.
The Bennett family purchased their first home in Annapolis and moved later to Lanham. The family resided in the Woodlark neighborhood for 32 years. During this time, Susan was very active in her neighborhood and church, Holy Cross Lutheran. She also was a Girl Scout Leader. Susan loved caring for her family and spent a lot of hot summer days at Green Acres Pool. Susan and Fred moved to Gambrills in 2003. They spent many weekends at their beach house in Ocean Pines.
Susan worked for PG County Schools for over 20 years. Susan was well regarded among students and staff. She retired in the early 2000’s and volunteered at Anne Arundel General Hospital for many years. Her hobbies included playing bridge, Spades and board games, gardening, knitting, traveling, people watching, attending sporting events and spending time with family and friends. She was a very extroverted person and loved to socialize with friends. She found joy in watching her granddaughter play soccer and lacrosse and she attended every game. Her family was always her #1 priority. She was a sweet, kind, and generous person with a strong faith in God. Susan enjoyed interior design, Homestead Gardens, listening to live music, eating outside, and having a good crab cake. Susan later enjoyed watching wrestling and the Game Show Network. Her favorite snacks were Peanut M&M’s, lollipops, and Carmel popcorn. She enjoyed a crisp Diet Coke, bread pudding, strawberry shortcake, and corn on the cob.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Mackall and granddaughter, Caitlyn Mackall.

A visitation for Susan will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715.
Her funeral service will follow on Wednesday, at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home on May 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM.
Susan will be laid to rest at 2:00 PM, on May 22, 2024, directly after the service in Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035 .
