After having an exceptional journey of life, Michael Lacey of Upper Marlboro, MD, transitioned peacefully on the morning of July 20, 2021, surrounded by his family at the University of Maryland at Baltimore Medical Center.
He was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School and moved on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. Michael went on to earn his Associates Degree from Virginia Community College. Michael eventually worked for Safeway Grocery Chain as a Transportation Specialist. He then became the Construction Supervisor for Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development where he retired in 2012.
Michael was the loving father of Michelle Lacey and Michael L. “Magic” Lacey II. Michael was an avid angler who could often be found fishing the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and other tributaries. He was affectionately known by his many friends as “Big Mike.” Michael was also a Free and Accepted Mason. Michael was a man of many interests that made his life full and gave him great joy. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite team; the Pittsburgh Steelers, traveling around the globe, laughing, telling stories and cooking with friends and family.
After 10+ years of battling various health challenges his fight is now over and Michael leaves behind a loving family consisting of partner Mary Fulton, mother Catherine D. Lacey, daughter Michelle Lacey, son Michael L. Lacey II (Whitney), brother Maxwell E. Lacey, granddaughters Dionna Lacey, Deja Lacey-Pollard, Leah Lacey, and a tremendous host of other family, friends, coworkers and travel buddies.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home of 16000 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD. Interment will be set at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery on July 28, 2021 at 11:15 a.m.
