Margaret Ison was a resident of New Carrollton, Maryland for 46 years died peacefully at her home on September 17, 2011. Margaret was the wife of the late Lee F. Ison. Born in Horicon, WI on March 30, 1922 to Alfred and Della Selchert Hamsing. She valued education and was the first in her family to graduate from high school. Served during WW II as a Wave in the U. S. Navy. During the first 20 years of marriage, she moved more than 20 times with her 4 children as a military family. Upon moving to Maryland, she worked for 20 years in the Drapery Department at the Montgomery Ward store at Capital Plaza. She enjoyed gardening, kite-flying, and hosting wonderful family gatherings. She was easily the world's best fudge-maker, banana cupcake-maker, and applesauce canner. her family was her treasure. She was a life-long Christian performing many acts of quiet charity and a member of the Carrollton Ward of the LDS Church.
Margaret is survived by her children Jim Ison and his wife Kathy, Glenn Ison and his wife Jan, Mary Ison and her husband Ben Mealey, Jean Rice and her husband David; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715 on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Carrollton Chapel of the Church of jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, 11525 Prospect hill Road, Glenn Dale, MD 20769. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
