John was born in Brooklyn, NY, the beloved son of Neapolitan immigrants Luisa Beccaria and Salvatore Iorio. A child of the Great Depression who always remarked that he never knew he was poor was brother to Antoinette Tallarico, Anna Wilson, Nancy LaValle and the late Louise Hinch, Mary Russo, Daniel and Frank Iorio. John died on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the age of 86.
John is survived by the true love of his life Natalie, known affectionately as his wife “Cookie” with whom he sustained a 54 year romance, and his three sons John, Danny and Marc. He is the proud grandfather of his son John’s and daughter-in-law Engle’s three children – Julia, Ashley and John J. Iorio II and he is also survived by a bounty of nieces and nephews all of whom he adored.
A Veteran of the Korean War where he was a medic, John studied mechanical engineering at Pratt Institute upon his return from active duty. His first job was as a draftsman for Emmerson Radio before moving on to Litton Industries for the remainder of his career. He was an avid baseball fan who had a genuine passion for the Baltimore Orioles.
The Iorio family will receive friends at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Bowie, MD. Interment will be Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City, NJ.
