Daniel, I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your father.  He sounds like he had a fascinating life doing what he loved and I'm sure he will be sorely missed by all.  My condolences to you and your entire family during this difficult time.

John was a friend of mine.  I met John (and Elsie) when Carol and I moved to the Washington area in 1977, 47 years ago. I met a number of people at that time, but only a couple of them have remained our friends these past 47 years.  
John was a nice guy.  In all those years, I never heard John speak an unkind word about anyone, and I never heard a bad word said about John.  That was the kind of guy John was.  It made it very easy to like John.
John had some hobbies.  One was guns.  He had a wonderfully diverse collection of guns that he liked to  play with, clean, and occasionally shoot.  We went to a shooting range once and he let me shoot a couple of his favorite guns.  It was the only time I knew that John actually shot his guns (except for the couple of times I heard he blasted a hole in his living room wall).
He also liked Cameros.  John called me up one day and asked me to come over, he wanted to show me his brand-new car with all the bells and whistles, a Camero. It was beautiful and he loved it.  But then a few months later I found out he had sold the Camero and bought a truck, with all the bells and whistles.  But then a few months later I found out he had sold the truck and bought a another Camero, with all the bells and whistles. But then a few months later I found out he had sold the Camero and bought a truck, with all the bells and whistles.  For those of you that know this story, you know this cycle repeated itself over and over, resulting in John owning 7 different Cameros (and 7 different trucks) in a period of a few years.  When he finally had to give up his driver’s license, John owned a Camero.
He also liked motorcycles, mostly Harley Davidson motorcycles.  John went through a similar cycle of buying a Harley, then selling it (usually to me) and buying another.  We often rode together with Jerry Stewart, Dave Risik, Carol and I.
If I had a chance to do it over again, I would spend whatever energy necessary to making sure John and I were friends. J

I met Elsie and John through Carol and Jim Vrancik twenty some years ago. Whenever John entered a room, everyone knew it.  You knew John was happy to see you. He had a great sense of humor.  His lifelong friendships with Buddy Gladhill and Jerry  Stewart produced many wonderful and funny stories especially from their childhood.  It was obvious how much John loved Elsie as he was often doting on her.   And she him.   John will be remembered by all those he came in contact with, through his many interests, friendships and 40 years worth of customers from Sheehey Ford.  John was quite a character who I really enjoyed getting to know.

John was a kind, thoughtful, funny and fun loving man who loved his family and friends. We feel honored to have known him for many years and we know his beautiful spirit is still shining brightly.

John always was there for you if you needed anything, anything at all.  He was a loving husband, father and friend and will be remembered as a happy, fun loving person.  He also enjoyed his many cars and motorcycles and especially his dog, Jasper.  We hope everyone holds on to their memories of John as these will bring comfort now and as time goes by.  We consider ourselves blessed to have been two of your closest friends over the years.  He will be missed, but will remain in our hearts and in our minds.    God Bless

Rest in peace Mr. Carroll.   I can still picture you taking us down to DC for lemonade or John's for barbecue.    Great memories!
