John was a devoted husband, father, and had a career with Sheehy Ford in Marlow Heights, MD. He started his love of cars in high school where he joined the “Gear Grinders” car club. He participated and won amateur car races. He made lifelong friends in the club. While working as a laundry delivery man, he met Elsie Carroll of Greenville, PA. Elsie had just started working at the Department of Commerce in Washington, DC. They married in 1968 and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in February of 2024.
John and Elsie moved briefly back to Pennsylvania. They had a son, Daniel Carroll, in Greenville, PA. In 1971, the three of them moved to Maryland. Elsie returned to her government position. John joined Sheehy Ford as an outside sales parts representative. His job was to build customer relationships at the local auto body shops and car repair locations and establish accounts for them to buy wholesale Ford parts from Sheehy. He loved his work and stayed at Sheehy for over forty years. He had hundreds of customers and brought in millions of dollars for his company.
John enjoyed parties with friends, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, and dining out. He drove Camaro sports cars, rode Harley Davidson motorcycles, and drank Coca Cola daily. He was an avid TV channel chaser and listened to the police and fire emergency radio channels.
John loved being around Elsie, telling stories to his friends, and making everyone laugh with his humor. He was proud of his son, Daniel, his daughter-in-law, Sarah, and his granddaughter, Tori.
He is survived by his wife Elsie Carroll of Bowie, MD; son Daniel Carroll and daughter-in-law Sarah Carroll of Bethesda, MD; and granddaughter Tori Carroll of Tallahassee, FL.
