James Michael Lavin of Owings, MD passed away in his home on Friday, November 10, 2023. He was born on May 4, 1962 in Washington D.C., the son of the late James Earl Lavin, Jr. and Elizabeth Eileen (Croston) Lavin. He was preceded in death by his wonderful Grandmother, Margaret Lavin.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, J’Anne Lavin; two children, Rebecca Lee and James Lavin, II; sister, Traci Lavin; Aunt, Margaret (Lavin) Calvert; Uncle, Gerald Croston; brother and sister in laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Mike grew up in Lanham, MD where he attended St. Matthias Catholic school and played percussion in the band. While there, he played sports for the Lanham Boys & Girls club and was named “Boy of the Year” in 1978. Mike received a band scholarship to play in the Wind Ensemble at DeMatha Catholic High School. There was no father prouder of his children and the wonderful adults they have become.
His passion for cooking, sports, and music was infectious, and he found joy in sharing these pursuits with the ones he loved.
