Jacob Alan Shanks

March 17, 2001- June 7, 2023

Jacob Alan Shanks passed away on June 7, 2023, at the age of 22. He was born on March 17, 2001, to Brian and Belinda Shanks. He grew up in Huntingtown, Maryland with his parents and his brother Christopher Piper. Jacob attended Calvert County Public Schools where he completed his high school program at Calvert High School in 2019 and graduated with a Certificate of Program Completion in the spring of 2022.

Throughout school, Jacob enjoyed time spent with classmates and teachers. He participated in Special Olympics, Best Buddies, and Calvert High School’s chorus. Jacob enjoyed riding the big yellow bus and going out on community-based instruction trips as part of school.

Outside of school Jacob enjoy spending time with his dad Brian, “bubby” Christopher, sister-in-law Caitlin, the girls (his nieces Paxton and Michaela), and family friends “Moose” and Kelly. He was a people watcher and got as much enjoyment out of watching others have fun as he did participating in activities. He would greet everyone with a smile, wave, and brief “hi”. Jacob enjoyed going to the beach and riding on the train or bus around town. At home he could be found watching YouTube, eating peanut butter jelly and chips, sipping on Coca Cola, and rocking in his rocking chair. Jacob knew someone everywhere he went in Calvert County.

Those who are grateful for having shared in Jacob’s life are his brother, Christopher Piper, sister-in-law, Caitlin Piper, nieces, Paxton and Michaela, uncle, Larry Shanks, aunt, Bonnie Thompson, aunt, Patricia Hemmer, family friends and guardians, Bruce and Kelly Bacon, and numerous cousins, friends, and teachers.

Jacob is preceded in death by his mother, Belinda Shanks, his paternal grandparents, Larry and Barbara Shanks, and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Harriet Mattingly, and his uncle, Tom Mattingly.
