Geoffrey Antoine Edwards was born October 7, 1949, in Bowie, Maryland. On Monday evening, January 16, 2023, the Lord, Thy God, comforted Geoffrey and gave him peace; reuniting him with his many loved ones, Geoff was called home at the age of 73. Geoffrey is preceded in death by both his parents Charles Edwards, Sr. and Elsie Marie (Prout) Edwards, as well as, his only sibling, older brother Charles Edwards, Jr., affectionately known as Sonny. Geoff was educated and received his High School Diploma from the Prince George’s County School system. As a teen, Geoffrey moved to New York with his mother and older brother; however, after several months he returned to the DMV area as he didn’t take to ‘City Life’ settling in with his late Aunt Jean Trimble and her husband and family, in the District of Columbia for a short while. Geoffrey later returned to the ‘Prout’ Family Old Homestead in Bowie, Maryland residing with his late grandfather, William O. Prout, Sr. and his late Aunt Edith P. Gibbs.
Geoff’s first job was with the State as he worked with the Board of Education in Bladensburg for several years, he would often borrow the movie projector, screen and films for “Movie Night” with his young cousins the children of his big cousin, William “Billy Prout” Henson. Geoff was a loving soul and during his early years, often spent much time entertaining his younger cousins, taking them on Educational Site visits to the Maryland State Capitol in Annapolis, the Waterfront, other museums and sites, as well as, junk food runs to the local ‘7-eleven or High’s’ convenience stores. In addition, Geoffrey shared a passion for Playing Cards, Playing the Ponies and Family Gatherings, Holidays and barbeques. The Prout family lived only a few miles from the ‘Bowie Race Course’ and often made it a family outing to visit the track and ‘play the Ponies.’
In his later years, Geoffrey, settled at the ‘Bowie Race Course’, living on the Track and taking a job as a horse groomer. With the Closing of the ‘Bowie Race Course’ in 1981 Geoffrey later moved his residence to the ‘Laurel Race Course’ continuing his employment as a groomer for over 30 years.
