Freda was born one of ten children on September 1, 1923 to Constandinos and Livira Flizanes in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Her parents and oldest brother emigrated to the United States through Ellis Island from the Greek Island of Fourni. Freda is predeceased in death, by her beloved parents, brothers and sisters, her loving Husband of 69 years, George J. Karos, her son, John G. Karos, and grandson, Daniel Aaron Huth.
Freda is survived by her daughter, Angela Karos Hogan and her ex-husband and good friend, Daniel T. Hogan and his wife Laura, her son and daughter in law, Manuel G. and Despina J. Karos, her son, Constantine G. Karos, and her daughter and husband, Tasia Karos and Walter M. Stark. Freda is also, survived by her loving grandchildren, John K. Hogan, Janelle P. Hogan, James R. Hogan and his wife, Amy, John D. Karos and his wife, Rebecca, Freda N. Williams and her husband, Nathan C. Williams, George M. Karos, Alexander C. Karos, Nicholas C. Karos, and Laura Huth Jackson and five (5) beautiful and equally loving great grandchildren. Freda resided in Crofton, Maryland surrounded by many good friends and neighbors for over 53 years.
Freda graduated from high school in Mckeesport, Pennsylvania in 1942. Freda and her late Husband, George, moved to Maryland after the war in 1946. Freda retired from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission as Senior Stenographer for the Planning and Design Department in 1985. Freda and her late husband, George, owned and operated Allied Food Shoppe (a restaurant and deli in Tuxedo, Maryland, where they became known for their famous subs and pizzas. After retirement, Freda and her late husband, George, opened and operated Zorbas Restaurant in Ocean City, Maryland, specializing in Gyros and other Greek specialties, including American cuisine.
Freda enjoyed reading and she was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Freda was a member of Saint Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, Md. for over fifty three years. Freda was a loving wife and mother, grandmother, great grandmother, good friend and neighbor who always welcomed everyone into her home with a warm smile, great food and shared stories in true Greek tradition, the OPA! Way (everyday life well lived with meaning and joy).
