A loving and generous life came to an end on April 3, 2018, when Dorothy Kraus Morthorst, a long-time resident of Collington Life Care, Mitchellville, MD and Cheverly, MD died at the age of 102.
She was born in Nauvoo, Illinois. When she was younger she was employed as a hair dresser, and later in Administrative positions with the Departments of War and Agriculture in Washington D.C. She was a homemaker most of her life. Prior to moving to Collington Life Care, she was actively involved with the St. Ambrose Catholic Church Parish; she carried forward her active involvement at Collington. Her family was very important to her.
She was the beloved wife of the late Fred P. Morthorst, Administrative Assistant to the Controller at The Washington Post. Dorothy and Fred married in 1945; Fred died in 1982. Surviving are three daughters, Diane (Lou) Hauf, Rosemary (Michael) Flanagan, and Elaine Morthorst; Sister Marilyn Kraus; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, and brother Elmer Kraus.
The family will receive friends one hour prior at the Sacred Heart Church Chapel 16501 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD, where the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 Noon on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD on Wednesday, April 11 at 1:30PM
