Brian was a 1980 graduate of Byron High School in Byron, IL. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1981, where he served as a Counterintelligence (CI) agent until he retired in 2001. His military career included many accolades for missions accomplished including Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, several noteworthy espionage missions in Germany with the most well-known being CANASTA PLAYER (U), the 1st Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm), NATO deployment to Bosnia after the Bosnian War, and many others. In 1991, after returning from Operation Desert Storm, he donated a kidney to his sister, Paula.
After retiring from the Army, Brian spent the past 19 years as a covering agent with the Direct Support attachment of the 308th Military Intelligence Battalion at Ft. Meade, MD. As a Department of the Army Civilian, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a proud lifetime member of the American Legion since the 1990s, joining Bowie Disney-Bell Post 66 in 2001, serving as former Commander and current Adjutant. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8065 in Bowie, where he was a former chaplain, lifetime member/volunteer at the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and member of the United Church of Byron.
His interests included cooking, hanging out with his grandson Kaleb, and watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks, Army, March Madness, and NASCAR. His favorite driver was Mark Martin.
Brian is survived by his mother Janet Frye of Mt. Morris, IL; special friend Kathryn Seeberger of Bowie; son Jeremy Frye (Courtney) of Florence, AL; brother Dean Frye (Cindi) of Loves Park, IL; sisters Deb Eisfeller (Jim) of Byron, IL, Darcie Feltmeyer (Mike) of Lanark, IL, and Paula Shal (Jim) of Johnsburg, IL; grandchildren Summer, Skylar, Xander, and Kaleb, five nephews, and one niece. Also survived by “The Kids” Frederick Stevens Jr. & Samantha Stevens of Edgewater, MD; his beloved rescue dog, Nala; and cockatiels, Buddy & Spike, who he taught how to say “Da Bears” and whistle The Andy Griffith Show theme song. He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Frye; his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Alice Frye; and his maternal grandparents, Wayne and Marian Hoffman.
