Bernie Reid passed away peacefully, in his home, in Glenn Dale, Maryland, on February 9, 2018. He was 93 years old. He was predeceased by his dear wife Kathryn Herold Reid, his daughter Paula Reid Gisiner, his parents Louise and Floyd Reid, and his brothers Ernie Reid and “Breezy” Reid.
Bernie is survived by his two children and their spouses, Karolyn Melka (Leonard), and Jeff Reid (Wendy); and by his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Hamilton High School, Hamilton, Ohio, and the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. He was a Sargent in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Bernie was Head Football Coach and Health Teacher at Albany High School, Albany, Georgia, from 1950-1958. He was a Defensive Football Coach for the University of Maryland, College Park, MD., from 1958-1966. He was a Talent Scout for the Denver Broncos, from 1966-1989.
Friends may pay their respects at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home at 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD., on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm with prayers at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Ascension Catholic Church at 12700 Lanham Severn Road, Bowie, MD., on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 10:30 am, followed by a reception. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bernie’s life. Interment will be held privately at the Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD., following the reception.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ascension Catholic Church, 12700 Lanham Severn Road, Bowie, MD.
