Col. Alvin S, Jacobs, US Army retired, passed away peacefully of natural causes at the age of 93 on November 4, 2022. Col. Jacobs was born on August 4, 1929. Col. Jacobs was married to Mildred A. Jacobs for 63 years, when she passed away in 2014. They met at the University of Florida. Col. Jacobs is survived by his six children: Janice A Carr (Art Carr); Frederick Jacobs (Sue Hagan); John Jacobs (Colleen Busher); Jeanne Corso (Ron Corso); Ruth Murphy; Cynthia Hudnall (John Hudnall). He has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Col. Jacobs had a long and distinguished career in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He was a combat infantry veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Second Infantry Division (2ID) in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion. Post the Korean conflict he moved into military intelligence and became a Russian expert and linguist. He had various postings around the world before joining the National Security Agency.
This international travel led to the second career for Col. Jacobs and his beloved wife, Millie; being antique dealers for 50 years. They opened their first shop, Treasure House Antiques, in Bowie, MD in September of 1972 and closed their final shop in The Antique Center in Savage, MD in September of 2022. Col. and Mrs. Jacobs made Bowie their home and where they raised their family. They were a Bowie Pioneer family living there for over 60 years.
All are welcome to join family and friends for visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, December 1st at Robert Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Rd, Bowie MD; the funeral service will be held the next day, Friday, December 2nd, at 11:30 am at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville at 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD 21032. Details about a post-funeral reception will be shared at the service.
