Acknowledged as, “Ginny” to her friends and affectionately known as “Ma” to her family, Virginia had a profound impact on everyone she knew. Remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit, accomplished art ability, love for Glen Miller, formidable bingo skills and lover of a good martini, Ma will be dearly missed.
Virginia was born on May 29, 1928, to Peter and Marie (Centracchio) Sepe in Boston, MA. She grew up in Newton, MA with her older brother Peter. They summered on Nantasket Beach and spent many days on the water and riding the iconic Ferris Wheel.
In her youth, Virginia developed a love and skill for equestrianism, for which she proudly earned many medals and ribbons. Graduating from Mount Ida College in Newton before starting a family was trailblazing in those days.
She raised her daughters in Newton alongside her high school sweetheart, her late husband Robert C. Baker. Virginia eventually grew her roots on the Cape, where she built her dream home overlooking the beautiful Cape Cod Canal. Throughout her years Ginny formed many lasting friendships which she cherished.
Virginia leaves behind two daughters; Lauren Baker Schilling of Hilton Head Island, SC and her husband Carl J. Schilling, and Lesley A. Cook of Buzzards Bay, MA and her husband John Cook, and Her son-in-law Brian Mercer of Concord, MA. She is predeceased by her daughter Gina M. Mercer.
She has left behind four grandchildren, Kristen M. Doherty, Kerri L. Cook, Mo and Robbie Mercer, as well as three great grandchildren, Caden and Paige Doherty and Nora Santillana.
We will forever miss our “Ma.” May you rest peacefully. We love you always.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday March 15th from 1-4pm with a service to be held at 3:30pm in the funeral home.
