Stanley grew up in Bourne. As a young boy he dreamed of being a large animal veterinarian. He was one of a few Bourne students selected to attend the program at Bristol County Agricultural High School in Dighton, Ma. Eventually Stanley returned to Bourne High School where he served as the class President. Soon, Stanley met the love of his life, Penny. They married and raised their four children in Bourne. Stanley worked for the Bourne Department of Public Works, before transferring to the Integrated Solid Waste Management division, and the Bourne Fire Department as a call firefighter for more than 40 years. He refused to accept being retired and continued plowing and sanding for MassDOT contractors until 2021.
When he wasn't hard at work he could be found at his favorite Bell Road fishing spot with the many friends he made there over the years. Stanley never traveled far from home but he enjoyed his summers camping on Race Point Beach and Sandy Neck Beach.
Over the years Stanley and Penny opened their home to numerous college baseball players who played for the Bourne Braves. His most notable guest player was Boston's own Kevin Youkalis. Kevin remained a friend to Stanley long after retiring from baseball. Stanley served as a long time board member for the Bourne Braves Athletic Association. He volunteered his time to maintaining the field for the players. He had a part in the construction of the new Doran Park and was proud to have dug the first load of dirt when the construction began. Stanley also volunteered his time operating the chains at Bourne High School football home games.
Stanley leaves behind his four children, Cindy and her husband Kevin Goulding, Stanley and his wife Linda Eldridge, Terry and her husband Michael Carrier, Penny and her husband Paul Weeks. His proudest adventure was watching his grandchildren grow up. He was grandpa to Alecia, Kara and Stephen Goulding, Mitchell and Nolan Eldridge, Ryan and Kaitlyn Carrier and Isabella Fusco and the great grandpa to Dominic, Brody and Carly Carrier, Trey Carrier and Cameron Goulding. He also leaves behind his big brother George Eldridge and many nieces and nephews that adored him.
A visitation will be held at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home at 40 MacArthur Blvd in Bourne from 4:00 - 8:00 on Friday, December 23rd. Burial will be private.
