He was the beloved husband of Margaret(Leary)Bergeron and adored father of Jane (Gilbert) DeLue, Paul Bergeron (Cynthia Jaquith), David (Joanne Parham) Bergeron, Renee (William) Coady, Alice Sullivan, Judithanne (Edgar) Eldredge, Emily (Robert) Migliaccio, Christopher (Kristin Burgess) Bergeron. He is predeceased by his precious daughter, Linda (Gerard) Tocci. Papa is dearly loved by his 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Roger was born in Leominster, Massachusetts. He is the son of the late Albert and Blanche (Thibaudeau) Bergeron and is predeceased by his brothers Eugene, Francis and Norman. He is survived by his sister Janet (and the late Kenneth) Proos, as well as many nieces, nephews, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
Roger began his distinguished military career in the US Navy as a Crash Station Firefighter. In 1951, he joined the US Air Force, first in Fire, Search and Rescue and later as an air traffic controller through the remainder of his service. He served as Tower Chief for many years and retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts. He was awarded the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal for his work training Philippine air traffic controllers during his remote tour in the Philippines.
Following the USAF, Roger worked in masonry as well as many years in food services management at Grandmas Restaurant and the VFW Post 5988. He worked as a night manager at Wood Briar Health Center in Falmouth until his retirement.
Roger was a member of VFW Post 5988, where he served for many years as the Post Quarter Master as well as holding other board positions. He was a member of the American Legion and the Air Force Sergeants Association. He belonged to St. John ‘s Parish in Pocasset.
Among the many things for which Roger will be remembered, his love of his family will be first. Husband of 64 years, “Daddy” of 9, “Papa” to 21 grandchildren (Brian, Melissa, Chasidy, Jared, Damien, Melony, Gregory, Nathan, Erin, Nelle, Parker, LeAnne, Emily, Edgar, Arthur, Armond, Lyvia, Dante, Alexandra Logan, Lily) and Great Papa to 8 great grandchildren (Bennett, Isabella, Henry, Harrison, Sam, Leila, Tyler, Dylan) with one more on the way!), he was always ready with a song, often in French, a dance (funky chicken anyone?) and always a warm smile. His memory will always be carried in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation is Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 5-8pm at The Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home on 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist Church 841 Shore Rd., Pocasset, MA. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA
