Raised in Victor, NY, he was educated at Westminster School and Williams College, and pursued a lifelong career in banking. Peter held many executive positions at Bank of Boston, working as a loan officer, branch manager, and later serving as vice president in charge of compliance. During his time as a banker, Peter made world headlines when he was accidentally “deposited” in the bank’s airtight vault, resulting in efforts to make sure he had sufficient oxygen and a phone line. All ended well when Peter emerged with his typical warm smile.
An avid sailor for many years, Peter enjoyed sailing in Buzzards Bay and working on his sailboat, maintaining it to perfection. Peter and Judy also enjoyed their travels with family and friends, retirement on Wings Neck, and spending time in the beautiful gardens that they created together with love .
In addition to Judy, Peter is survived by his son, Andrew Loomis, and his daughter, Gretchen Cass, son-in-law, William Cass, and grandchildren, Sandra Loomis, Matthew Loomis, Alyssa Cass and Andrea Cass. Peter was predeceased by his sister, Mary Alice Rickman.
There will be a remembrance later this spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Bourne Conservation Trust, https://www.bourneconservationtrust.org.
