Mike was born in Boston, Mass. on October 2, 1941. He grew up in Stoughton, Ma. where he graduated from Stoughton High School in 1959 before joining the U.S Navy that same year.
After 22 years in the Navy, Mike retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1981. He took great pride in his service to this Country. He remained “retired’ only briefly before returning to what he loved, the U.S. Military. He began working as a civilian for the US in torque and calibration. First at the Naval Air Base in South Weymouth until 1996 and then at Otis Air National Guard Base until his ultimate retirement in 2008. Michael received many awards and commendations during his 45 year career.
Mike was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing the “nuggets of wisdom” that he collected over the years. He also enjoyed his cars, as he
had many prized vehicles over his lifetime. He enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing and was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots.
Mike, or “Dad” as I like to call him, had a fabulously witty and sarcastic sense of humor which he leaves to his two loving daughters Stacey and April (and quite possibly his grandson, Aryn).
Mike is survived by his girlfriend and true love of 15 years, Sandra Dickinson of Pocasset, MA as well as her two sons Scott and Jonathan and their families; his two daughters, Stacey Leonard-Morrison and her boyfriend, Thomas Shattuck of Concord, NH and April Taylor and husband, James Taylor of Goffstown; two grandsons, Aryn & Kaden Morrison of Concord, NH; And two grand-dogs, Tucker and Baylee Taylor of Goffstown, NH. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Michael J. & Alice Leonard as well as both of his brothers William (Billy) Leonard and Richard (Rick) Leonard.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hope Hospice/McCarthy House at 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, Mass., 02602 or Children’s Hospital of Boston, 300 Longwood Ave, Boston, Mass. 02115.
