Born in Mazenod, Saskatchewan, Canada she was the third of seven children. Mary was the first in her family to attend college, becoming a teacher in the bitter cold northwest territories. During her summer break she took a cruise out of CA where she met Edward T. Shay, beginning a whirl-wind romance and deep-devoted love affair that spanned over 51 years. Mary and Edward built a home in Pocasset where they lived and raised two children William of Bourne and Carmen. Mary was devoted to and adored by Edward and William.
Mary had a keen intellect and wit, and was a businesswoman who owned a successful real-estate company in Pocasset.
In retirement Mary enjoyed cruising with Edward, day trips, gardening, writing poetry, knitting, but more than anything being with the people she loved. Mary, Edward, William and Cristoff travelled to Niagara Falls, Canada returning to a place the couple visited on their honeymoon to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary last August.
A memorial mass will be held at the Saint John's Church, 341 Shore Rd. Pocasset, MA on October 5th at 10:00am. Relatives and Friends kindly invited. Private interment will be held at Bourne Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption or similar adoption charity.
