Kevin Joseph Brand, 69, of Buzzards Bay, MA passed away peacefully on December 17th, 2023 at his home, with his wife and son by his side, after a 2 year battle with stomach cancer. He was born to Owen and Catherine (Sullivan) Brand on September 2, 1954 in Boston, MA.
Kevin grew up in Dorchester and spent his summers in Pembroke on Furnace Pond. He enjoyed camping with his brothers every year at "Camp Cuckoo" in New Hampshire. He loved nature, animals and music. He enjoyed water skiing, boating and just relaxing by the water. He had a love of fishing on the Cape Cod Canal and asked that some of his ashes be spread by his favorite fishing spot. He loved singing and enjoyed spending time at karaoke bars on the weekends. He met his wife Kristin at karaoke night at Quintal's restaurant in Buzzards Bay in 2005. They bought their home in 2007 and started hosting karaoke parties every July and all were invited. He used to say "the more, the merrier". Kevin's proudest moment was when his son Kadin was born on January 21, 2010. He was a devoted father. They enjoyed many things together like swimming, sword fights, nerf wars, archery, video games, watching movies and going to the arcade just to name a few.
Through his jobs and hobbies, Kevin made many lifelong friends and loved them all. As a youth, Kevin's love of animals landed him a job at the Franklin Park Zoo. They just had a reunion recently and Kevin just loved seeing everyone again. At the zoo, he would make the announcement and gather all the patrons to see an animal up close and personal. He used to say this all the time..."Hey folks, it's pet ring time here at the children's zoo. How would you like the chance to see, touch and greet one of our amazing animals up close and personal?". After High School, Kevin joined the Air Force as a fuel specialist. He was stationed in Maine for 2 years and then South Korea for 2 years. After returning from the service, he worked at Sampson's Lumber in Pembroke. He did carpentry work for many years and was a member of the carpenter's union for a while. He also worked at WoodBe Antiques, making unique and beautiful pieces from repurposed furniture and later made several pieces for his home. Kevin worked as a custodian briefly at Mass Maritime Academy but then he got his final and favorite job at Upper Cape Tech where he worked for 20 years. Kevin always had a dog while growing up and told his wife that he wanted them to always have one. Many will remember the story of how his beloved Lady K found him that time at UCT. She brought the family joy for many years. The family's most recent rescue dog is Bonnie. Kevin taught her many tricks this past year, including rollover and sit pretty. He was a man of many talents and he could fix anything. He retired from UCT on April 29, 2022. He enjoyed only a few days of retirement before learning of his stomach cancer diagnosis on May 5, 2022. Kevin was taken too soon and he will be deeply missed by his family and all those who were lucky enough to call him friend.
Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Kristin (Whitworth) Brand; his 13 year old son, Kadin Owen Brand; his 3 brothers, Joseph Brand and his wife Joan (Doward) Brand of Epsom, NH; Bernard Brand and his wife Linda (McPherson) Brand of Plymouth, MA; Stephen Brand and his wife Lori (Paquette) Brand of Brockton, MA; and his brother-in-law Bruce Lillie of Kingston, MA. Kevin was predeceased by his father Owen Brand, his mother Catherine "Kay" Brand and sister Catherine (Brand) Lillie.
