Of Bourne, formerly of Scituate, passed away peacefully at Falmouth Hospital on November 19, 2013 at the age of 81. Mr. Shyne was the beloved son of the late John and Bernadette (Carney) Shyne of Cohasset and is survived by wife of 52 years, Marjorie (O'Brien) and their children Patricia Giehl and her husband Kevin of Wisconsin, John Shyne and Connie Shyne of Panama, and Timothy Shyne and his wife Cathleen of Scituate. He was the grandfather of Karl Giehl, Katherine, John William, and Brendon Shyne, and Bridget and Kevin Shyne. He is also survived by his sisters Bernadette and Mary, and brothers Frank (deceased), Kevin, and James. Mr. Shyne was graduated from Cohasset High School in 1950, Boston College in 1954, received his Masters Degree from Boston State in 1965, and an honorary Doctorate degree from Cardinal Stritch University in 1992. Mr. Shyne also served his country as a Commander in the United States Naval Reserve for thirty years. He began his civilian career working with exceptional children at the Cardinal Cushing School and Training Center in Hanover where he eventually became CEO. He enjoyed his administrative duties with a steadfast concern for the needs of his special students. After retirement he and his wife continued their service to the Bourne community schools, The Council on Aging, and The Cancer Society. Visitation will be held at Bourne Nickerson Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 24. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 25, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John The Evangelist, in Pocasset.
