John Francis Burns, a lifelong resident of Buzzards Bay MA, died Monday, March 25, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. Burns, for over 66 years. John was born on September 10, 1925, in Bourne MA. Educated in the Bourne School system, he also attended the Industrial Technical School in Boston. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, John served on the U.S.S. Admiral W.S. Benson during W.W.II. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, John worked for the U.S. Postal service, as the first walking carrier in the Buzzards Bay area. John matriculated next to the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Cape Cod where he was a dedicated employee for 42 years. He was also a member of the Bourne Planning Board. A lifetime professional musician, John was a member of many area bands, preformed with the U.S. Navy band and taught many local youths the guitar. Upon his retirement from Coca-Cola, John took up painting and enjoyed many hours with his brushes. A hard-working and kind family man, he cherished time spent with his 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Survived by his wife, Patricia, and their children, Kathleen Hall of Buzzards Bay, Sandra Clark of Yarmouthport, and Jack with his wife Donna of Sandwich, along with his brother Melvin “Chick” Burns of Buzzards Bay.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Boulevard, Bourne MA. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Sandwich MA.
