2020 at home. She was born to the late Earl B. Bourne & Catherine Bourne (Chandler) in
Boston, MA.
Joanne is survived by five children, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was
predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Theodore “Ted” Bauckman in 2009 and her brother,
David in 2008. She was a direct descendent of Richard Bourne and Thomas Burgess, both
early settlers of Cape Cod.
Joanne grew up in Newton, graduating from Newton High School in 1953. She then attended
Wheaton College leaving to be married in 1955. Following their marriage Joanne and Ted lived
in Hartford, CT, Albany and Glens Falls, NY; and in Vernon and Simsbury, CT before moving to
Cape Cod in 1984.
Joanne volunteered for many years in the Girl Scouts, church school, local hospitals and with
Hospice in CT and on the Cape. She worked for the Hartford Insurance Group and later
assisted her husband in his insurance agency. After moving to the Cape, she worked at the
First Church of Christ in Sandwich for 26 years before retiring in 2011. Her hobbies were
gardening, reading, cooking, sewing, genealogy, traveling with Ted, and spending time with her
grandchildren.
Joanne leaves two daughters, Martha (Stanley) Cataldo of Dover, NH: Gretchen (Gary) Wood of
Middleboro, MA and three sons; Mark (Janie) of La Mesa, CA, Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA,
and John (Sharon) of Crofton, MD; beloved grandchildren Lynne Cataldo-Guloy DMD, Seth and
Andrea Wood, Tim and Kevin Bauckman, Jim and Christy Bauckman and Daniel, Matthew,
Katherine and Elizabeth Bauckman and great grandchildren, Bryce and Liberty. She also leaves
a sister-in-law, Sue Bourne, nieces, Catherine and Becki, nephew, Bill and many cousins.
Interment will be at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of
flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Heroes in Transition, Inc., 22 Bates Road,
Suite 135, Mashpee, MA 02649.
