Jean (Nye) Collins Kennedy was born in New York, but grew up in Fairhaven and New Bedford, MA. She was a resident of Bourne for over 50 years and was well known as the Postmaster of Sagamore Beach for 25 years. After she retired, she and her husband Joseph P. Kennedy owned the Sea Cliff Bed and Breakfast. She was very proud to be a descendant of the Nye family and Myles Standish.
Jean is survived by her daughters Sharon Collins Short (John) of North Falmouth and Christine Collins Crane (David) of Gray Gables her much loved grandchildren Julianna Suratt (Jeremy) of Wayland and Tara Frutkin (Jon) of Phoenix Arizona; and Margaret and Michael Crane both of Bourne; step-children Joseph P. Kennedy and son Ian of Northhampton; Mary Alice Bigwood (Matt) of Marstons Mills, Jeanne Dwyer (John) and children Jake and Emma of Scituate, and five great grandchildren, Alex, Sam, Emmett, Finn and Willa. Jean never met a beach or dog she didn’t love and could often be found “catching some rays” on her lunch hour from the Post Office. One of Jean’s joys in life was the view from the cliff at Sagamore Beach Highlands. A celebration of her life will be held at Swift Memorial Church at a later date. Burial will be private. Donations in Jean’s name may be sent to your favorite animal shelter.
