James grew up in Buzzards Bay and attended Upper Cape Regional Technical High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology where he studied electronics. Between high school and Wentworth James spent four years in the US Army as a forward observer for the artillery being stationed in Hanau, West Germany and in Fort Polk in Louisiana. James enjoyed hiking through the woods metal detecting, tinkering with electronic devices, cracking jokes with his dry sense of humor, and seeing his nieces Carmella and Cecilia whom he adored. He worked for Schiedt & Bachmann USA as a Quality Assurance Manager and Senior Service Engineer for the last 24 years.
He is survived by his brother Douglas Berger of Buzzards Bay, father Allen Berger of Buzzards Bay, sister Kelly Berger of Oak Bluffs, and nieces Carmella and Cecilia Berger of Buzzards Bay. James is now reunited with his late mother Joan (VanOsdol) Berger.
