Henry (Hank) Joseph Ferris Jr. of Norton and Wellfleet, Massachusetts, passed away on September 12 surrounded by his loving family. The son of Henry Joseph and Mildred MacDonald Ferris of Dorchester, Massachusetts, Henry was born on October 1, 1938. He graduated from St. Mark’s grammar school, Boston Latin School and Georgetown University. He was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1960 at Pensacola, Florida and was married on July 23, 1960, to his college sweetheart, Barbara Jo Tucci, of Weston, West Virginia.
Hank served as Air Intelligence Officer, Navy Squadron 153 in Lemoore, California and completed two tours to the western Pacific on the USS Coral Sea. He finished his service with two years at the Naval Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC and was honorably discharged in 1966.
He received his master’s degree in marketing from George Washington University in 1965. Upon discharge from the Navy, Hank and Barbara moved to New York, where Hank worked on Madison Avenue as an executive with Ted Bates Inc. and Ogilvy & Mather. He was then hired by Charles Dolan of Cablevision Systems in several corporate positions in both Long Island and Boston. He ultimately managed various systems in Massachusetts including the Boston franchise. He retired from Cablevision in 2000.
Hank loved nothing more than family and his beach house in Wellfleet, and he was happiest combining the two. He invited family from across the country to spend time with him in Wellfleet and especially loved the sunsets.
He is survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 61 years, and their children Theresa Bartels, Patrick Ferris (Donna) and Henry Joseph III (Kristin). His grandchildren Danielle Weaver (Doug), Ashley Ferris, Chelsea Bartels, Jonathan Ferris, and Catherine DuBois (Vincent). His three great grandchildren Henry, Michael, and Vincent Jr. Also surviving him is his brother Charles of Chevy Chase, Maryland. His eldest brother Thomas of Wayzata, Minnesota predeceased him in 2019.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norton, Massachusetts and he will be laid to rest at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Hank’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
