Helen I. Bergman

Helen was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1947. Her family then moved to Southern California where she graduated from High School at La Sierra Academy. In 1969 she married Gary L. Bergman. They were married for 42 years prior to his passing in 2011. They had 3 boys while living in California, and then moved across country to settle in Bourne. A final try for a daughter yielded them their fourth son. As an avid athlete, she was commonly the fourth player in any sport her older boys were playing in the yard, and routinely schooled them in basketball, tennis, baseball, street hockey, and even tackle football. As her youngest caught up, she was often the referee for the boxing matches that often broke out during play.

Helen had a love of travel that led her to attending travel agent school and subsequently becoming the owner of Welcome Aboard Travel. She also spent many years working at Logan airport for U.S Airways.

She is survived by her 4 children: Sean (Adrienne) Bergman of Bourne, MA; Marc Bergman of South Korea; Daren (Melissa) Bergman of Berlin, MA; Lance Bergman of Bourne, MA; her Brother Gerard Ban of Nebraska; her Sister Barbara Villars of California; her grandchildren Rachel, Amanda, Tyler, Bryce, and Garrett.

Visiting hours will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. in Bourne. Memorial services and burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
