Fred was born on August 28, 1918. He was the son of the late Kusti and Ida Anderson, who immigrated to America from Finland in the early 1900’s. He is predeceased by 9 siblings: John Isohanni of Finland, Onnie, Henry, Alfred, Donald, and Arthur Anderson of Bournedale, Helmi Toolas of Sandwich, Ida Tucker of Bournedale, and Esther Anderson of Foxboro.
Fred served our country as an airplane machinist in World War II, serving in Algeria in Northern Africa from 1942-1945. He enjoyed excursions to Rome and other areas of Italy during this time. Fred and “Liz” were married on June 4, 1962 in Hyannis, Massachusetts. They bought a home in Dunedin, Florida, where they resided for the next 51 years. Friends observed that they never saw Fred without Liz, and they never saw Liz without Fred. They enjoyed taking care of their home - painting, shingling, mowing, maintaining their rental apartments, fishing, golfing and entertaining various friends and relatives from the north. Plus, they walked everywhere! Fred was a fine carpenter who also enjoyed working on small engines. Family members looked forward to October each year when Liz and Fred would come north for a two week visit with his relatives, which number over 200. Everyone was pleased when brother and uncle and aunt were in town.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17 from 10:00-11:30am at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home in Sandwich. A brief service will be held at 11:30am, followed by burial at Sagamore Cemetery.
