On December 5, 2011 François Van Beeck of Buzzards Bay died suddenly and unexpectedly. He had only recently celebrated his 60th birthday. Swa, as he was known to family and friends, is survived by his loving wife Becky (Wenzel) Van Beeck, his son Christopher Van Beeck and fiancé Lidia Williams, and his daughter Sheila Van Beeck and Oliver Precourt and their 18 month old son Owen Precourt. He was predeceased by his father Petrus Van Beeck, his mother Jeanne Van Trier, and his younger sister Patricia Van Beeck. He leaves behind two brothers, Roland and Marc Van Beeck, and two sisters, Linda and Annie Van Beeck, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews living in Belgium. He is also survived by his loving father and mother in law, Thomas and Martha Wenzel and their extended family.
While growing up in Belgium he became an accomplished professional cyclist. After marrying Becky in 1975 and moving to the United States, he continued his cycling career here as well as becoming a U.S. National cycling coach. Shortly thereafter he starting working in the construction industry with his brothers in law and eventually started his own business, Van Beeck General Contracting.
He loved nothing more than to spend time with his family and spoil his first grandson Owen. He took immense pride in his yard and garden and could be found working outside on almost any day. He will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Bompa, Friend, Coach, Mentor, Comedian, Hero, Craftsman, Fisherman, Nature Lover, and Athlete.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, December 9, 2011 in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. in Bourne. Funeral services in the funeral home will begin at 11 am on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Bourne Rescue Fund, 342 County Rd., Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
