Born in Brockton, MA he was the son of the late Albert and Madeline Howard.
Mr. Howard enjoyed a 38 year career in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, where he reached the rank of Sergeant Major. He retired in 1993 and dedicated his life to public service. Dan Howard (callsign K1DYO) was an active amateur radio operator and served his community in public service for decades. He was a member of the Falmouth Amateur Radio association along with being an Assistant District Emergency Coordinator for the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) in his home area of Cape Cod MA. Dan was also an active member of the American Red Cross.
Dan participated in support of many emergency communications support operations serving his community. Some of these include the Democratic National Convention in 2004, The Blizzards of 2005 and 2013. He was also at the Boston Marathon on the Day of the bombing attack in his role as Assistant District Emergency Coordinator (ADEC), he helped support the Cape Cod Barnstable County Incident Management Team in times of disaster. Dan also participated in many FEMA, state, and local exercises.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Dale K. Howard and his wife Laureen of Attleboro, MA and a daughter Linda J. Howard of Pocasset, MA and a niece Janna Morris of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Howard, of Brockton, MA, and his two sisters, Natalie Howard of Summit, New Jersey and Nancy Wood of Okeechobee, Florida.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Thursday, February 24th at 10 a.m. at the Bourne Methodist Church followed by a burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dan's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
